You have stumbled onto my website. Here you will find usefull and not so much useful information about myself and what I have done or currently working on.
My name is Brian Ofsthus and I currently work at ORNL(Oak Ridge National Lab). I feel very privileged to work at such a historic site. I support a vast group of researchers. My career is in IT and I have touched and supported every aspect of IT over the years. Currently I support an HPC Cluster for the Physics Directorate, as well as several experiments, most notably ALICE that is being ran out of CERN.

What’s funny is my career didn’t start out going to college out of High School. I grew up on a Ranch in Montana. I worked for a local Plumbing store learning the Plumbing trade as well as Electrical work. I Then decided to join the Navy. So, it was off to San Diego! After the Navy I worked for a Cooprage managing the Waste Treatment plant. At some point I decided I really didn’t like being dirty and working outside all the time. So Off to College for a year or so. I learn mechanical Engineering and CAD Design. From there my first job working with Computers Professionally was converting Paper Drawings to Digital format such as AutoCAD and related CAD software. I then had an opportunity to work for a true Manufacturing Company call AST in Tacoma WA. They designed and built Baby Diaper Lines that created 500 diapers per minute. It was an amazing place to work and allowed me to hone my IT Craft. I was the only one at the company that had any kind of IT related background as in for spare time I was writing BASIC and goofing around with older PCs. So, I was tagged as the Support person. I designed their first network. And let’s just say there were BNC connectors involved so you probably know how long ago that was. MORE TO COME………..
